Mains Prelims Combo

Dear Aspirant,

Welcome to the Mains + Prelims GS 2027 Combo Course.

The Combo Course will begin from 25 October.

This course is designed for aspirants who do not want to prepare for Prelims and Mains as two completely separate examinations.

The idea is simple:

Prepare for Prelims. Build for Mains. Start early.

My intention with mains course is NOT TO teach concepts or build understanding

my goal is to help you make your own hand written notes, I will dictate the keywords for each topic and expect you to brainstorm alone in silence and weave points around the keywords.

I will cover all the GS papers

I am going to start with GS2, then GS3 and then GS4, for GS1, we will do after prelims since lot of topics overlap with prelims.

I will dictate sentences once, which you then have to write in your own language under each topic.

Furthermore, I will try to solve all the PYQs for mains in a similar method. While doing PYQ brainstorming, we will try to stick to 7 min for each question time frame.

Please note, I am not going to teach the subject, I wont clear your conceptual questions, my ultimate goal is to make sure you have your own hand written notes on each of the topics of mains papers.

Please read this page carefully. It explains what I will teach, how the course will function, what you can expect from me, and what I will expect from you throughout the preparation cycle.

Before making the payment, I strongly encourage you to watch a few videos on my YouTube channel:

YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@pibinupsc

This will allow you to judge my teaching style, the depth of content, and whether my approach suits the way you want to prepare.

There are only a limited number of videos available, but they should give you a fair idea of how I approach topics, connect them with current affairs, and think about them from the examination perspective.

Why a Mains + Prelims Combo?

UPSC does not really test two completely unrelated sets of knowledge.

The same issue can appear as a factual question in Prelims, a conceptual question in Mains, an issue for an Essay, or a question requiring you to connect multiple subjects.

Preparing only for Prelims and then beginning Mains preparation after the examination leaves very little time to develop analytical thinking and answer writing.

This course follows a different approach.

Learn → Understand → Connect → Revise → Write

The objective is to build these habits throughout the preparation cycle.

You will continue preparing for Prelims while simultaneously developing the skills required for Mains.

What Makes This Course Different?

This is not simply an extended Prelims course.

The focus will be on integrated preparation.

Along with Prelims-oriented content, we will continuously work on:

• Mains PYQs
• Answer writing
• Essay writing
• Introduction and conclusion building
• Repeated UPSC themes
• Mock tests
• Crisp revision notes
• One-pager notes
• Current affairs and static linkages
• Analytical thinking
• All four Mains GS papers

The aim is that you should not reach the Mains examination after Prelims and suddenly ask:

“How do I write a Mains answer?”

You should already have been writing.

Daily Videos

You will receive one video every day, approximately 30 to 45 minutes.

These daily videos will continue up to Mains 2027.

The lectures will cover relevant static and dynamic portions of the syllabus, current affairs, PYQs, repeated topics, government sources and examination-oriented analysis.

Some videos may be pre-recorded shortly before their scheduled date so that current developments can be incorporated wherever relevant.

The purpose of these videos is not to make you dependent on lectures.

They are meant to give you the framework, direction and analytical approach with which you should do your own reading.

Mains Answer Writing

Answer writing will be a continuous part of the course.

We will practise answers based on:

• UPSC Mains PYQs
• Current affairs
• Static topics
• Contemporary issues
• Government policies and reports
• Repeated UPSC themes

The focus will be on learning how to:

Understand the demand → Organise your thoughts → Build an argument → Add examples → Present multiple dimensions → Conclude effectively

You will not improve your answer writing simply by watching someone else write.

You have to write.

10 Years of Mains PYQs

We will systematically work through 10 years of UPSC Mains PYQs.

The objective is not simply to solve previous questions.

We will examine:

• What exactly is UPSC asking?
• Which themes keep returning?
• How does UPSC frame questions differently on the same topic?
• What does the directive actually demand?
• What dimensions can be developed?
• What examples can strengthen an answer?
• How can static knowledge be connected with current affairs?

The goal is to make you see patterns instead of isolated questions.

All 4 Mains GS Papers

The course will cover the preparation and answer-writing approach for:

GS Paper 1

Indian Heritage and Culture, History, Geography and Society

GS Paper 2

Polity, Governance, Constitution, Social Justice and International Relations

GS Paper 3

Technology, Economic Development, Environment, Biodiversity, Security and Disaster Management

GS Paper 4

Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude

The approach will focus on concepts, recurring themes, PYQs, current examples and answer writing.

Introduction and Conclusion Preparation

Knowing the content is only one part of Mains preparation.

You also need to know how to start and finish an answer effectively.

We will work on:

• Different types of introductions
• Context-based introductions
• Definition-based introductions
• Constitutional and institutional introductions
• Data and report-based introductions
• Examples and contemporary references
• Different types of conclusions
• Way-forward conclusions
• Constitutional and ethical conclusions
• Balanced and forward-looking conclusions

The objective is to help you build a usable repository of introductions, conclusions, examples and frameworks rather than trying to invent everything during the examination.

Essay Practice

Essay preparation will also be integrated into the course.

We will work on:

• Understanding the topic
• Decoding philosophical and abstract statements
• Building dimensions
• Creating a logical flow
• Using examples effectively
• Developing arguments and counterarguments
• Linking different dimensions
• Writing introductions and conclusions
• Regular essay practice

The objective is not to memorise essays.

It is to develop the ability to think, structure and express ideas clearly.

Mock Tests

Regular mock tests and practice exercises will form part of the preparation.

These will help you evaluate:

• Knowledge retention
• Question interpretation
• Answer structure
• Time management
• Ability to recall examples
• Ability to complete answers within the word limit

Tests are useful only when you actually attempt them.

Repeated Topics

UPSC has certain themes that keep appearing in different forms.

We will repeatedly revisit important and recurring areas instead of treating every topic as something to be studied once and forgotten.

The objective is:

Read → Revise → Revisit → Write → Revise Again

Repeated exposure is an important part of long-term retention.

Crisp Notes

You will receive crisp, examination-oriented notes wherever relevant.

The focus will be on:

• What you actually need to remember
• Important concepts
• Key facts and data
• Government initiatives
• Important reports
• Examples
• PYQ linkages
• Mains-ready arguments

The intention is not to create another enormous set of material that you never revise.

The intention is to create material that you can actually revise.

ONE-PAGER Notes

Important topics will also be consolidated into ONE-PAGER notes.

These will be designed for quick revision and last-mile preparation.

A good one-pager should allow you to look at a topic and quickly recall:

Concept + Facts + Examples + Issues + Government Initiatives + Challenges + Way Forward

The idea is to gradually build your own compact revision repository.

What I Will Teach

Polity and Governance

• Constitution and constitutional provisions
• Bare Act approach
• Constitutional amendments
• Landmark Supreme Court and High Court judgments
• Parliament and legislative processes
• Governance and institutional developments
• Contemporary constitutional issues
• Important governance themes from PYQs

Laxmikanth should be completed independently.

The course will not replace your standard books.

It will help you understand the Constitution better and connect static knowledge with current developments and UPSC questions.

Economy

• RBI and monetary policy
• Banking and financial system
• Money and capital markets
• Fiscal policy
• Budget and Economic Survey
• External sector
• Government economic policies
• Contemporary economic developments

Basic economics should be covered through NCERTs and standard sources independently.

Environment

• Ecology and biodiversity
• Climate change
• COPs and international conventions
• Species and ecosystems in news
• Environmental governance
• Pollution
• Environmental challenges
• Government initiatives
• Contemporary environmental developments

Geography

• Physical geography
• Indian and world geography
• Maps and places in news
• Geographical phenomena
• Resources and industries
• Human geography
• Geography and environment linkages
• Current-affairs-based geography

NCERTs remain essential.

International Relations

• India’s bilateral relations
• Major geopolitical developments
• International organisations
• Regional groupings
• India’s neighbourhood
• Global institutions
• Contemporary international issues

IR will be approached through:

Current Affairs + Static Understanding + PYQs + Answer Writing

Ethics

We will focus on:

• Core ethical concepts
• Thinkers and philosophies
• Values and attitude
• Emotional intelligence
• Aptitude and integrity
• Probity in governance
• Case studies
• Examples from contemporary life and administration
• Answer-writing frameworks

PIB and Government Sources

Government sources will form an important part of the preparation.

These may include:

• PIB
• Government reports
• Ministry websites
• Economic Survey
• Budget documents
• Parliamentary material
• Important government schemes
• Institutional reports

But you are not expected to read everything published by the government.

The objective is to understand what matters for UPSC and why it matters.

Prelims Preparation

The course will continue to support your Prelims preparation alongside Mains.

We will work on:

• Static concepts
• Current affairs
• Repeated topics
• Mapping
• Environment
• Polity
• Economy
• Government schemes
• PYQs
• Prelims practice
• Mock tests
• Revision

The objective is to ensure that your Mains preparation does not come at the cost of Prelims.

At the same time, your Prelims preparation should contribute to your Mains knowledge.

What I Expect From You

This is perhaps the most important part.

The daily 30 to 45 minute video is not your preparation.

It is a part of your preparation.

You will have to:

READ.
REVISE.
WRITE.
THINK.
REPEAT.

If you watch a lecture but do not read afterwards, very little will remain.

If you understand answer-writing frameworks but never write answers, your writing will not improve.

If you keep postponing revision, the syllabus will eventually become overwhelming.

Your Preparation Should Have Four Components

1. LEARN

Use the lectures to understand concepts, current affairs and examination patterns.

2. READ

Read your standard books, NCERTs, newspapers and relevant source material independently.

3. WRITE

Practise Mains answers and essays regularly.

4. REVISE

Return to the same topics repeatedly until they become familiar.

All four are necessary.

One Important Principle

I will not spoon-feed you.

My job is to help you understand:

What to read → How to read → What to connect → What UPSC has asked → How to think about it → How to write it

Your job is to actually do the reading, revision and writing.

The course is designed to make you more independent, not more dependent on lectures.

By the Time You Reach Mains 2027

The objective is that you should not be starting your Mains preparation from zero after Prelims.

You should already have:

• Covered major static and dynamic areas
• Analysed 10 years of Mains PYQs
• Practised answer writing regularly
• Practised essays
• Built a repository of examples and contemporary references
• Developed introductions and conclusions
• Prepared crisp notes
• Created one-pager revision material
• Attempted mock tests
• Identified recurring UPSC themes
• Connected current affairs with static subjects
• Developed your own answer-writing approach

The final Mains phase should therefore be about consolidation, revision and refinement, rather than starting everything from scratch.

One Final Thing

I cannot promise you a rank.

Nobody honestly can.

What I can promise is serious content, a structured approach and consistent guidance throughout the preparation cycle.

The course is built around years of preparation, integrating insights from PIB, newspapers, government reports, PYQs, standard sources and multiple coaching materials.

But ultimately, the result will depend on what you do with that material.

If you are looking for endless lectures while remaining a passive viewer, this course is probably not for you.

If you are willing to read extensively, revise repeatedly, write regularly and stay consistent, this course is designed to work alongside that effort.

The lectures will guide you.
The PYQs will show you what UPSC asks.
The answer writing will teach you to express what you know.
The mocks will show you where you stand.
The notes will help you revise.
But the preparation will still have to be yours.
